Painting en Plein Air
Just as the global pandemic was making its way to Northern Canada, I drove into the rural central area of British Columbia to attend a 6 day plein air painting workshop. I was very lucky to be so secluded and in a place of peace while the rest of the world seemed to be going crazy. I was so lucky that I was able to attend this workshop, because if it was to be a week later, it would not have gone ahead.
The great thing about this workshop is that we are outside. And in winter too!!! There is such a peace about being outside and really looking at the landscape around you. I would sit there and try to listen to the landscape, sometimes it talks to me in soft whispers.
This is an oil sketch done on recycled wood paneling (always trying to repurpose things), while we spent a lovely sunny day at the Bowron Lakes. It was so sunny and cold (yes, even in March) with snow everywhere. It was so lovely. This sketch done in oil was painted in about an hour. It reminds me of the peace of the day.
