Ink Work

Some times nature gives me inspiration that I cannot resist.

Over the last couple of years I have been taking pictures of mushrooms whenever I happen upon them. Mostly because a co-worker of mine really likes mushrooms and can identify most of them. So when I come across mushrooms that are really interesting I take a quick picture and send it on to him. I often don’t think too much of these images when I take them, and this was the case with this picture. I took this picture quickly and days later I was looking through my pictures and I stopped at this one.

What drew me to this picture was the colour. I love the bright orange-red of the mushroom caps, contrasted with the bright green. The brown of the leaves seem almost metallic.

So I needed to try to get some of these colours on paper. I got my inks out and did some experiments. I played with some masking fluid and washes. Some of the coloured inks have a metallic flake to it.

So here are my ink experiments.
