A New Year’s Challenge

Jan-1-2021.jpeg

In 2019 I gave myself the challenge to do one drawing a day for the whole year. It was a hard challenge but worth it in the end. Not only did I end up with a number of drawings, coloured with water colour, but I had proof that daily work and practice leads to improvement. I had been telling my students over and over that they need to draw every day. Now I had proof. I was right!

In 2020 I decided to take a break from the challenge. In some ways I was bored and I couldn’t come up with a way to make it interesting again. I think I was tired, not only of doing the drawings, but because of the frenzied pace of my life. I had been working 6 days a week and found it hard to find time for my art. 2020 then came to a crashing stop, a pause, and time to take a breath. This made me rethink my priorities and so I made some changes. I now have time for my art.

It was time to challenge myself again. I was thinking about doing a different 365 challenge, but then I figured that I don’t need anything different this year. I need to just draw again. So my challenge for 2021 is to do one drawing a day, every day.

Here is my first drawing of the year.
